ITMITMENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING PARTNERSPrepare your RFQ

YOUR DRAWING. A CLEAR MANUFACTURING ROUTE.

Custom gears built around your drawing

A gear enquiry needs more than an outline of the teeth. The tooth geometry, mounting features and acceptance requirements must describe how the component will work in its assembly. ITM coordinates custom gear projects with manufacturing partners, starting with your drawing and technical brief.

The component collection includes spiral bevel gear shafts and compound gears. Use these examples to discuss your part family, rather than as a catalogue of interchangeable products. The production route, partner facility, checks and delivery terms are agreed for each order.

FROM REQUIREMENTS TO ACCEPTANCE

Define the part.
Agree the route.

01

Define the gear geometry

Prepare the tooth data as well as the overall dimensions. Depending on the design, this can include module or pitch, tooth count, pressure angle, helix or spiral information, and the required tooth quality. For a component that works with a mating gear, identify the counterpart and any assembly requirements that affect acceptance.

02

Treat the mounting features as part of the gear

Bearing journals, bores, splines and shoulders locate the gear within the mechanism. Identify the critical fits and datum scheme in the drawing so the project brief covers these features alongside the teeth. ITM coordinates the review of material, surface requirements and inspection records before the manufacturing route is selected.

03

Agree how the part will be accepted

The inspection plan should address the features that matter to your assembly. Specify the measurements and records your order needs, including any tooth-related checks. Available methods are confirmed for the project; dimensions displayed on example drawings describe those parts' requirements, rather than a universal manufacturing tolerance.

START WITH A USEFUL BRIEF

Prepare a gear RFQ

  • Drawing or CAD model with the current revision and tooth data.
  • Mating-part information and assembly constraints, where relevant.
  • Material, heat-treatment and surface-finish requirements.
  • Critical fits, datums and the inspection records required.
  • Quantity, expected repeat orders, requested date and destination.
  • Confidentiality requirements before restricted files are shared.

For confidential projects, start with a non-confidential summary and agree an NDA and file-sharing route.

BEFORE YOUR ENQUIRY

Questions about your component

Can I request a gear component that is not shown in the collection?

Yes. Start with its drawing and intended assembly. The collection illustrates component families; feasibility and the production route need a review of your specific requirements.

Are the displayed fits and tolerances guaranteed for every gear?

They are requirements from individual example drawings. Your gear's acceptance criteria and available inspection methods must be agreed separately for the order.

How is production coordinated?

ITM coordinates projects with manufacturing partners. The partner facility, production route, checks and commercial terms are confirmed for each order.
