ITMITMENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING PARTNERSPrepare your RFQ

YOUR DRAWING. A CLEAR MANUFACTURING ROUTE.

Splined shafts for your specified assembly

A splined shaft connects several functional surfaces in one part. The spline interface, bearing journals, shoulders and end features need to work together in the assembly. ITM coordinates shaft projects through manufacturing partners, using your drawing to define the scope before production.

The collection includes a long splined shaft and an output shaft with distinct journals and spline features. These examples help frame an enquiry for your own component. They do not replace a complete specification for the mating interface, fit, material or acceptance checks.

FROM REQUIREMENTS TO ACCEPTANCE

Define the part.
Agree the route.

01

Specify the spline interface

Identify the spline standard or provide a fully dimensioned profile. Include tooth count, relevant diameters, fit designation and engagement length, along with the mating component where available. A CAD shape alone may leave these requirements undefined, so the drawing should identify how the spline is to be manufactured and accepted.

02

Connect journals, shoulders and datums

A shaft's locating surfaces deserve the same attention as its spline. Mark the bearing seats, shoulder positions and datum relationships that control the assembly. Distinguish size tolerances from geometric requirements such as runout or cylindricity. ITM uses the technical brief to coordinate the production route and the checks needed for these features.

03

Plan the records your order needs

Define material, any required heat treatment and surface finish in the enquiry. Agree which critical features will be checked and which records will accompany the order. The inspection method and documentation are confirmed for the specific project, together with quantity, packaging and delivery terms.

START WITH A USEFUL BRIEF

Prepare a splined shaft RFQ

  • Current drawing revision, CAD model and overall shaft length.
  • Spline designation or profile, fit, tooth count and engagement length.
  • Mating-part details, journal fits, shoulders and datum references.
  • Material, heat-treatment and surface-finish requirements.
  • Geometric tolerances and the requested inspection records.
  • Order quantity, repeat demand, requested delivery date and destination.

BEFORE YOUR ENQUIRY

Questions about your component

Is a 3D model enough to request a splined shaft quotation?

A model is useful for geometry. Add a drawing or specification that defines the spline interface, fits, material, finish and acceptance criteria so these requirements can be reviewed.

Can the shaft include bearing journals and other machined features?

The shaft examples include journals, shoulders and spline features. Include all features in your enquiry; the suitable production route and project requirements are confirmed after review.

How should I share a confidential shaft drawing?

Start with a non-confidential summary. Discuss the NDA and an approved file-sharing route before sending restricted drawings or CAD files.
